Jacksonville Florida, September 27 1975. Our Mother, Marge, had just successfully popped out, without drugs mind you, a beautiful baby girl. She was exhausted, but excited to have a playmate for her son Michael, who was a mere 21 months old. “Wait a minute…hold on. We hear another heartbeat!” exclaimed the resident doctor. “Yep, there’s another one in there!” Oh Sh*t. She didn’t say it, but I know that is what she was thinking. Dad was busy cracking jokes, so Mom kicked him out of the delivery room as she popped out baby number two, nine minutes later.
And there you have it, the beginning of our journey into this world. I forgot to mention that the hospital staff threw away the evidence (the sac or sacs), indicating whether or not we were identical or fraternal. We found out through genetic testing just two years ago…we are in fact, identical!
One egg that had split, yet two distinct souls. It is fascinating, once you really think about it. We always felt different…in a good way. However, people still to this day, without fail, compare the two of us. You are the prettier one, you are the heavier one, you are the fun one, you are the serious one…it goes on and on. To our faces! Really? It’s not cool. You don’t get a hall pass to inadvertently criticize us because we are twins. Feel free to complement us all you want, though☺
We had a great upbringing in Chicago, Illinois..playing sports, eating beefaroni and watching the jetsons. We ventured off to college at Arizona State University, graduating with honors in marketing. The party didn’t stop there..we headed West a bit more to put another notch in our belts at the University of San Diego, graduating with our Masters’ in Business. Yes, we lived together, dated twins (no joke), worked at the same restaurant and eventually scored jobs working at the same pharmaceutical company. We fell in love (not with the twins, but different non twins) and had beautiful healthy babies.
